Art Deco Interior Design
Art Deco interior design first appeared in France in the early 1900’s. Established around the thoughts of a new modern era fast approaching on the horizon leaving behind the stylings of the Victorian era. One is reminded of the geometric cubist designs in the paintings of Picaso and Baque of the same era rounded with the aerodynamic lines of aviation designs. Bold chevrons, motif centric forms enhanced with vertical lines defines the era of Art Deco design which spanned from 1900-1940 reaching its height in 20’s and 30’s reminiscent of the luxury enjoyed in Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby and the excitement of flapper girls.

Art Deco Paint Colors and Flooring
Art Deco colors vary from region to region and is more noticeable by its lines instead of its colors. In coastal areas, such as Miami, Florida with its vibrant Art Deco community, its Art Deco colors are more taupe in nature as one would still encounter during our modern era. This also remains true for the colors one would see in a more urban area such as New York City. You would stay with colors which define your area. On the walls, one would still see mostly taupe paint colors. Often enhanced by furnishings of dark inlaid woods, with a liberal use of bronze and brushed metallic surfaces, and sometimes vivid colors bursting from a palette of monochromatic bases. Art Deco patterned Wallpaper, and Stencils are sometimes used to develop the colors and lines in a room. On the floor, designs are often used which were pulled from a motif, cameo, or a geometric pattern used in the scheme of the room. The design is then incorporated into the flooring materials which are often ceramic tiles, wood, or marble. The floors usually have a sleek and glossy appearance defined by the contrast between the contrasting colors which create depth within the intricate patterns.

****(Write a Paragraph describing each Styles Furnishings and Lighting)****Example Below
Art Deco Furnishings and Lighting
Art Deco furnishings and lighting appeal to the eye with sleek clean lines and geometric patterns. From a 1920’s Hollywood executives office with a bright sparkling geometric chandelier on the ceiling with a streamlined velour chaise lounge seat to the dimly lit cubist patterned lamp and chevron sconce smoke filled, absinthe soaked writing bars of Paris Art Deco design is welcomed. Seated furnishings are mostly sleek and linear but comfortable with amply upholstered taupe based colored velours. Leather seating with contrasting colored geocentric shaped patterns stitched together to pull in the rooms design. Exotic inlaid wood desks, tables, armoires, coffee tables and other typical furnishings incorporate the standard pattern of the style. Lighting in this style can vary from room to room, but is usually accomplished in formal rooms with large chandeliers and sconce lighting can account for an unintended deco-ish pattern on the wall due to shading. In private rooms desk lamps, floor lamps, and a stepped style ceiling light fixture will suffice.
